Most owners are aware of the importance of watching the waistlines of these wonderful equines but the fact remains that, Highlands, Haflingers and the like usually have strong rounded bodies with minimal definition. Some Arabs also fall into the same category. Despite being easy to care for in most ways, these chunky chaps pose particular problems for professional saddle fitters. The combination of a flat shoulder, lack of wither and broader beam means saddles tend to slip forwards, sometimes going right up to the neck! Additionally because fo their inherent table top shape, the saddles of these horses and ponies have a habit of rolling form side to side. It´s for their owners that Fieldhouse has developed the Extra Haflinger General Purpose Saddle. High on the agenda during development was alleviating that slipping or rolling. So Fieldhouse developed a special girthing arrangement to create more stability. Besides the conventional 3 girth straps, the Halflinger Extra sports a point strap to anchor the saddle´s front as well as a balance strap towards the rear for increased stability. These straps are there if you need them but discreet and non-bulky in case you don´t. Fieldhouse also realised that riders of wider breeds would sometimes like to feel closer to their horse or pony as if they were sitting more, ´into´ him. Thus the Extra Haflinger´s panel incorporates a shallower gusset depth and wide weight-bearing area for close and confident contact between horse and rider. |
