The thoroughbred is a finely tuned horse built for speed, he´s also sensitive and when these attributes are correctly channelled, he´s unbeatable for performance, willingness to please and the ability to give a lovely ride.
Thoroughbreds have their own inherant conformation characteristics too. There´s that lovely shoulder creating the smooth action, that intelligent head for mobility those powerful quarters for the impulsion to gallop and jump - and those high withers which can make fitting a saddle so difficult.
In an ideal world, a saddle offers adequate clearance over the withers and spine, while its panels give a good even contact throughout the horse´s back for a uniform weight bearing surface and a balanced seat for the rider. The problem with thoroughbred and thoroughbred-type horses is that so many have prominent withers, compounded by a tendancy to dip away into hollows behind the wither. In older horses or those lacking muscle tone, this shape is further emphasised.
Ever mindful of meeting individual horses´ needs, Fieldhouse have created a specific saddle for thoroughbred types. The Extra Thoroughbred saddle is built on a slightly deeper cut-back tree than conventional saddles. This allows the pommel to sit neatly around the wither rather than over it. We have also considered the rider´s need for a balanced seat. By incorporating a deep gusset at the rear of the saddle, Fieldhouse have alleviated the inclination for the seat to slope backwards.
The Extra Thoroughbred also addresses those hollows. Thanks to a modified design, the panel area has been increased thus boosting the weight bearing area behind the withers with the additional benefit of slightly lifting the saddle at the front, for even more wither clearance.
Doesn´t your extra special thoroughbred deserve an Extra Thoroughbred saddle?
